Effect of diaspore addition on microwave-assisted sintering of floor-tile

Diaspore was added to the floor tile composition in the range of 5-20 mass-%. The pressed samples were sintered using a 2.45 GHz, 900 W microwave furnace. XRD results showed quartz and anortite as the crystalline phases in all samples with and without adding diaspore. Samples containing 5 mass-% diaspore were heated to 5.8 porosity after 9 min heating (from room temperature to 1150°C) and obtained higher strength values than those without diaspore.
