This paper describes investigations into the possibility of using waste materials for the production of dry pressed ceramic tiles. By using power plant fly ash and suitable waste fluxing agents (here hornblende dust) and firing the raw material mixtures at 1100?1200 °C, it was possible to prepare a ceramic body with properties corresponding to those of dry pressed ceramic tiles manufactured from pure natural raw materials (mostly alumino-silicates). The properties of the fired fly ash bodies (e.g. water absorption, bending strength, bulk density, moisture expansion according to ISO 10545 standards) as well as their microstructure are presented and discussed.
