An ink set includes liquid coloring compositions comprising chromophoric metals. The metal compounds decompose by heating at 500-1300, preferably 840-1250 degrees C. The metal compounds of specified compositions may form the respective colored oxides or colored compounds derived from the interaction between the metal and the ceramic material onto which the ink set is applied, and the zirconium compounds of specified composition may form white oxides or white compounds derived from the interaction between zirconium and the ceramic material onto which the ink set is applied.
