The invention relates to a method for production of a ceramic material or object with a set or given thermal expansion coefficient, containing materials with the phases (Zr,Hf)W2O8, (Zr,Hf)O2 and WO3 and where necessary additives or fillers, with (Zr,Hf)W2O8 powder as starting material which is brought to a sintering temperature in a mould with a heating speed of more than 50 DEG C/min, preferably more than 100 DEG C/min, in particular more than 200 DEG C/min and a sintering temperature of max. 900 DEG C, preferably 750 DEG C to 850 DEG C, for ZrW2O8 or a temperature 50 DEG higher for HfW2O8 for a hold time or duration of 0.1 to 150 min, preferably 0.2 to 30 min, in particular 0.2 to 15 min is held and subsequently the sinter body is cooled and removed from the mould.
