Mullite has long been known as an important component of traditional ceramics. But its use as an advanced structural material at both high and low temperatures has also been increasing tremendously. Mullite has several advantageous engineering properties, including low thermal expansion, good chemical stability and high strength at high temperatures. Extensive research work has been going on in different laboratories on the different processing techniques of mullite ceramics to improve the material–s economic efficiency and also its mechanical, thermal and electronic properties. This paper embarks on a comprehensive review of the different processing techniques investigated and employed.
