The influence of quantity and grain size of melaphyre, originated from the Low Silesia region, added to clay raw materials, on properties of ceramic material was investigated. As a result of the SEM and optical microscopy observations of the fired material, the closed pores being pseudomorphs of the melaphyre grains were noticed. The pores were a result of partial penetration by the liquid phase from melted melaphyre to the surrounding porous matrix being a product of the thermal transformation of the clay raw material. The observed phenomenon led to a decrease of the open porosity.
